A ship designer by background, Max now spends his time leading a small team developing Austal’s vision of the Internet of Things at Sea: MARINELINK Smart. MARINELINK Smart provides live operational advice to the captain and crew of a ship to reduce fuel costs and improve the comfort of crew and passengers. Max returned to Austal in 2016, having worked on the design of the US Littoral Combat Ship for Austal a decade earlier. In the intervening years Max advised shipyards on the implementation of new shipbuilding technology across Europe, Canada and Australia and led projects to develop new undersea defence technologies for the UK Royal Navy. Max enjoys windsurfing, tennis, skiing and the challenge of keeping IOT sensors alive at sea (something they were rarely designed for).
